Jaman South NCCE Organizes Educational Visit For  SHS Students To The Electoral Commission Office To Gain Insight Into The Democratic Process.

 

In an effort to deepen students’ understanding of the democratic process, a group of 47 students from Hidaayah Islamic Senior High School, Japekrom on Monday 6th May, 2024 embarked on an educational visit to the Electoral Commission office at Drobo.

 

The visit was organized by the Jaman south NCCE office as part of its civic education program to provide students with firsthand experience and insight into the workings and operations of the electoral commission.
Speaking during the visit, the municipal director at the Jaman south NCCE directorate Mr. Emmanuel Oduro addressed the students that the visit was aimed at helping to shape the next generation of informed and responsible citizens who will play a vital role in upholding the principles of democracy.

Also placing emphasis on the commission’s theme “Together, we can build Ghana, so get involved”, he urged the students to be involved in nation building by abiding by the laws of the country and performing duties as a citizen as it is important for the development of Ghana.

Mr. Emmanuel Oduro encouraged students who had attained the voting age to participate in this year’s limited voter’s registration exercise to enable them exercise their franchise during the 2024 general elections.

Addressing the students, Mr. Isaac Dotse, the deputy returning officer at the Jaman south electoral commission said the electoral commission was the only institution that had the mandate to conduct Presidential, Parliamentary and district level elections in the country and other elections in the interest of the country such as by-elections, Referendum, etc.
He further took the students through some of the machines and documents used by the commission to conduct elections and any activities related to elections. These included the Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs), ballot papers, voter’s register, statement of poll.

The students had the opportunity to learn about voter registration, the voting process, and the importance of civic participation in shaping the future of their community.

Overall, the educational visit to the Electoral Commission office was a valuable learning experience for the students, providing them with a practical understanding of the electoral process and the importance of civic engagement.
