Bawku Teacher’s 19-Year Commitment Amid Conflict Receives High Praise

The Bawku Municipal Director of Education in the Upper East Region, Mr. Isaac Agbeko Azasoo, has commended a dedicated teacher who has spent 19 years serving in Bawku despite the protracted conflict in the area. He described the teacher’s commitment as exemplary and worthy of national recognition.

According to Mr. Agbeko, the teacher’s unwavering presence, even during periods of heightened insecurity, demonstrates rare courage, professionalism, and a deep sense of responsibility toward the education of children in the conflict-affected municipality.

“While many public servants have requested transfers from Bawku due to safety concerns, a few teachers have chosen to stay and continue impacting lives. Such dedication must not go unnoticed. These are the teachers who keep education alive in difficult times. He deserves any award that may be instituted by the Ghana Education Service (GES) or the government,” he said.

The commendation follows a 2025 feature by GBCNews’ Upper East Regional Correspondent, Peter Agengre, which highlighted the story of Mr. Yussif Abdul Fatahu, the teacher who refused to leave Bawku despite the prolonged conflict. In the feature, Mr. Abdul Fatahu cited his love for children and his belief in their future as his primary reasons for staying.

“I see hope in these children. If we abandon them now, their future will suffer,” he said in the GBCNews report.
